Synopsis

The Metal Men are set to perform at the Settlement House, for neighborhood children. En route, Platinum notices a lonely little boy, sitting on the stoop in front of his home. Platinum attempts to entice the boy into attending the show at the Settlement House, but he rudely rebuffs her. The Metal Men each take their turn performing feats for the children, starting with Mercury. Platinum, however, is distracted by the lonely little boy's refusal to attend. After Iron and Lead surprise their creator, Doctor Will Magnus, with a new trick, it's Platinum's turn to take the stage. Platinum, however, refuses.Leaving the Settlement House, Platinum returns to the lonely little boy. The boy, Timmy, is blind, a condition he hid from Platinum early. It is also due to his blindness that Timmy did not realize that one of the Metal Men was actually inviting him personally to their show. The rest of the team has followed Platinum back to Timmy, and warmly introduce themselves to the boy. With Timmy's mother's permission, the team offers Timmy the chance to spend an entire day with the Metal Men. Platinum tells Timmy that Magnus can cure his blindness, placing the inventor in an awkward position.Though Magnus knows it's hopeless, he goes through the motions of looking for a cure. Magnus locks himself within his laboratory, dreading the moment he must tell Timmy that he has failed. Meanwhile, the Metal Men take Timmy up into orbit, on board their rocket ship. Suddenly, caught in a powerful cosmic turbulence, the rocket is drawn away from Earth, into deep space. The Metal Men are tossed, haplessly, about the cabin. To save Timmy from injury, Platinum spreads herself out into a wire mesh between Timmy and the Metal Men. The rocket ship arrives at a distant planet, seemingly devoid of life.Strangely, the sole feature is a deserted amusement park. After checking the atmospheric conditions, the Metal Men take Timmy to the amusement park. Platinum notices that Timmy counts the steps and turns...
